Head Boys Cross Country and Track Coach
Jon Gordon begins his Third season as Head Coach of the Marist Cross Country and Track and Field Team. The Marist RedHawks Cross Country Team qualified for State for the first time in 19 years as a TEAM upon Gordon's arrival in 2017. The RedHawks finished SECOND in the ESCC Cross Country Championships in 2018, and had the individual IHSA Regional Champion, and State Qualifier.
Jon Gordon was Captain of the Northern Michigan University Cross Country Team, and earned All NCAA GLIAC Conference Honors in the 1500m and 3000m in Track and Field. Gordon holds the NCAA Record for the most Varsity letters in the Sport of Cross Country (5). He was Clay County Track and Field Mens and Womens Coach of the Year, a member of the NCAA UAA University of Chicago Coaching Staff of the year, and a finalist for the 2016 ITCCCA Cross Country Coach of the Year award.
Prior to Marist, Jon Gordon has coached high school and college athletes since 1999. Jon Gordon coached the sixth place Team (Northside College Prep) in State in Cross Country in 2016, 2016 IHSA Sectional Cross Country Champions, 2016, 2015, 2011, and 2008 IHSA Regional Cross Country Champions, and also won four Chicago Public League Titles (2009, 2014, 2015, 2016) in Cross Country. Gordon coached NCAA Cross Country All Americans in 2003 and 2002 for the University of Chicago. Gordon coached the 2000 and 1999 District Champions (St.Johns) on their way to the Florida High School State Championships. Hosted Olympians Billy Mills, Todd Williams, and Sam Vezquez for Team events.
In Track and Field, Jon Gordon has coached over 100 IHSA State qualifiers from 2006 - 2019. Gordon has won IHSA Sectional Track and Field TEAM Championships in 2012, 2013, and 2016. Gordon has coached NCAA All Americans in the 1500, 5000, 10000, and Distance Medley Relay.
Jon Gordon is a certified Cross Country and Track Coach with the National Federation of High School State Associations and USA Track and Field. Gordon also has a law degree, and is a former Illinois Supreme Court Law Clerk.
