CHARLESTON, Ill. – For the second straight week Eastern Illinois track and field will split its squad as the Panthers will send a small group of athletes to the Drake Relays while remaining team members will compete on Saturday at the Stan Lyons Invite in Indianapolis.
The Panthers had eight individuals qualify and be accepted into the Drake Relays with an additional six relay teams earning berths in the event.Megan Gingerich
will be the lone women's runner competing as an individual at the Drake Relays as an entrant in the 800m run. The Panther women will also enter squads in the 4x800 relay, distance medley relay and sprint medley.
Seven individuals from the men's team all earned spots in the Drake Relays field with Zye Boey
, Darren Patterson
and Jacob Mitchell
all competing in the 100m dash. Pat Tortorici
will compete in the 400m hurdles.
In men's field events Mick Viken
will compete in the pole vault, Tyler Carter
in the long jump and Tyler Arnholt
in the discus. The Panther men will also enter squads in the 4x100 relay, 4x200 relay, 4x400 relay and sprint medley relay. Last year EIU won the sprint medley relay with Boey and Patterson returning this season from that championship squad.
